The brief

Northgate had 40 years of built work and a website that showed six buildings. New clients were arriving through word of mouth and leaving the site with less confidence than they came in with.

What we did

  1. We catalogued 212 projects and chose 38 that describe how the practice thinks. Each got a single lead photograph and a short plan drawing.

  2. The site borrows the pacing of a printed monograph: one building per scroll, captions set in the margin, no carousels.

  3. The same layout grid runs through the 320-page book, so the practice can move material between print and web without a designer.

Outcome

The studio now sends the website instead of a PDF portfolio. Competition shortlists in the first year doubled compared with the year before.

People arrive at our first meeting having read the site properly. That has never happened before.
